As the owner of JustUs Chiropractic Marketing, I am commonly asked if I am also a chiropractor. Oddly enough I commonly feel this is a question that is intended to validate or devalue my expertise. In fact the common mistake I see most chiropractors make is that they assume their patients and prospective patients are more knowledgeable about what chiropractors do, treat, and how they can help. When you are in an expert, you forget that others are not.
Many of your chiropractic patients have no idea what ailments and conditions you treat. If you treat them for headaches they understand that, but the most likely don’t even know you also treat scoliosis! This goes way beyond the different ways you treat them. At JustUs Chiropractic Marketing we specialize in Chiropractic Personal Injury Marketing (Auto Accidents) as well. I had a discussion with a doctor recently whom has been in practice for over 20 years and primarily focuses on PI. I tried to explain to him that most of the general public is unaware what PIP (Personal Injury Protection) is, what it covers, or even if they have it on their insurance. I know this because we speak to literally hundreds of people every day who were in recent accidents and we ask them. Over 90% of people don’t have a clue what PIP is, let alone if they have it. This doctor was adamant that everyone knows what PIP is and if they have it. He claimed he knows this because he has been practicing for a long time and he just knows that people know! Unfortunately, this assumption hurts success.
It’s always better to educate or reeducate than to assume! Your chiropractic patients don’t know all the different ailments and conditions you treat. As a result, they don’t know the different ways you can help them, nor how you can help their friends and family! They also don’t know about billing, health insurance coverage, auto insurance coverage, billing for different services you offer, philosophy of chiropractic care, and so on. The more they know the more people they can refer. Helping them understand this goes beyond simply listing ailments and conditions, but giving them specifics. Such as , We can help people who sit at a desk all day, crossfitters, people who get hurt doing yoga, someone how was told they need back surgery, someone who is constantly needing pain pills, someone in a recent auto accident, athletes and so on.
Please don’t assume your patients know as much as you do. We all get stuck in that trap. Not being a chiropractor has been advantageous in making our marketing more successful. We constantly break everything down to the basics. Chiropractic Marketing is much different than marketing for real estate, pizza, house painting, gyms or even dental because the public has a general understanding of what those industries do and how they can help. EVEN Those industries still provide additional education and elaborate on how they can help. To be successful in marketing your practice, educate and proceed as if patients don’t know!
Here are some ways to help you educate your patients and increase your practice!
- Put up educational posters in your office.
- Send out a quarterly postcard to your patients educating them on conditions as well as informing them on your referral program and what’s happening in the office.
- Have a quarterly referral program in your office that tells your patients the different types of patients to refer.
